While the hatchback loses the GT trim, there’s a new Carbonite Edition trim available with a red-accent grille, air dams, and trim-specific badging.
And the base trim’s standard equipment list gets longer, with the addition of forward collision mitigation and the upgraded seven-inch Smartphone Link Display Audio™ infotainment system.
A three-cylinder engine is matched to either a five-speed manual transmission or optional CVT, through which it drives the front wheels. Low drag and a light curb weight lead to excellent fuel economy whether you’re keeping it local or taking a trip farther afield.
Storage capacity is mixed, since the sedan offers generous trunk space but fixed rear seats, while the hatchback combines a larger interior with 60/40 split seats.
In addition to passive safety features, the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan and hatchback offer the aforementioned forward-collision mitigation, plus a backup camera, stability control, and hill-start assist. Step up to the SE trim for lane departure warning, or option parking sensors into any trim, for added peace of mind.
As with other new Mitsubishi models, there are good reasons to climb the trim levels. Features like Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® are not standard in the lower trims even though the infotainment system is.
